What is Ostara?

Ostara is a celebration of the Spring Equinox. The name comes from the goddess Ostara or Eostre. Many of the practices that are now associated with Easter, even the name Easter itself stems from the ancient pagan practices of the Spring Equinox. For example, planting eggs in the ground for fertility, and the associates with rabbits and chicks. In the Wiccan belief system, Ostara is the time of the year when the Maiden Goddess and Young God are wed. Ostara is a celebration of new beginnings, growth, love, and fertility. Since Ostara is also the Spring Equinox it also marks a return to balance, as the light and dark are once again in balance as they were at the Fall Equinox. It marks the changing of nature from winter to spring and growth that culminates with the bounty of summer.

Instagram post 2166717628033314673_4160891335 Blessed Samhain. This Samhain is a very special one, in honor of my dear departed cat. He lost his battle with heart disease earlier this fall. We knew it was a losing battle but he was doing so well...until he wasn't. The decision was made to end his suffering. He fought as long and hard as he could. He was a good boy, the best boy. He is so missed by all. My Little Man.
I set up an ancestor altar for Samhain and invited him and all my other ancestors of blood, bone, and soul to come visit and feast. Offerings of dried cranberries, soul cakes, and red wine.
Blessings to all those on both sides of the veil. #samhain #witchesofinstagram #samhainaltar #pagansofinstagram #witchcraft #ancestoraltar #allhallowseve #halloween
