In turbulent times such as these it’s easy to get swept away with emotions of despair, anger, frustration and feeling just plain worn out. How can you take the time to take care of yourself, when so many others are in need? It might be hard to rip yourself away from your work but if you cannot take care of yourself, how can you help others? As the saying goes, “you cannot pour from an empty cup.” The best antidote to despair and anger is love. Where better to start than with yourself? Chances are you aren’t always treating yourself as kindly as you do others, so start with yourself, find your center, find your truth and find the strength to fight another day.
Social media gives us voices, it amplifies the voices of those who are easily overlooked. Yet, it also means we are constantly bombarded with every little thing without a moment’s pause. That’s why it’s so important to take the time to unplug. Set limits for yourself, when you find yourself getting overwhelmed by the social world, step away from it. Everything will carry on with out you. Take breaks as often and for as long as you need. You could try limiting yourself to only going on social media during certain hours, once in the morning and once at night. Or set a time limit, only 15 minutes of Facebook allowed! Or if you need it, go on a social media detox for a weekend or even *gasp* a week! How long can you go unplugged and what changes will it bring you?
Raise Your Energy
Feeling drained? Raise some energy! There are lots of ways to raise energy, and you might find some methods suit you more than others. Physical movement, like dance is a powerful way to move and raise energy, so put on y our favorite most empowering music and let it move you! Music alone is also a great way to raise your energy, it’s my personal favorite. Music can elevate your mood and make you feel empowered, so put on your music, turn it up and let it renew your soul! Sometimes you might need some quiet, meditation is another wonderful way to raise your energy. A good grounding never fails to help me feel centered and ready to face whatever comes my way.
Put on your favorite outfit, and your favorite makeup and totally rock it. It doesn’t matter if you are going to be sitting home all day or if you’ll be out running errands, whatever you are doing take the time to put in the effort into something that makes you happy. You know that necklace you never wear but love, and makes you feel awesome? Wear it. Just because. Wear the outfit that makes your legs look awesome, and makes you feel unstoppable. Own it. Love it. Flaunt it. Do whatever makes you feel your truest self and totally enjoy every moment of it. You deserve it.
Affirmations are positive words or phrases that give you encouragement or support. They help you to change your mindset to a positive one. You can create your own affirmation or use one of the many that have been created. The key is to only use positive phrases, avoid negative statements. Some of my favorite affirmations are:
- I attract success in all I do.
- I am love, I am loved, and I spread love.
- I am courageous and stand up for myself and others.
- I acknowledge my own self worth, my confidence soars.
When was the last time you did something only for you? It’s been too long! It’s time to get that facial, or treat yourself to that fancy coffee drink. Do something that makes you feel good, that makes you feel loved, and special. It can be as simple as taking that nap or going to that new restaurant that you’ve been dying to try, or just hanging out with your friends you never spend enough time with. So go on, take the time and do it. Have a relaxing afternoon tea in your favorite cup. Make your favorite dinner (or dessert 😉 ). Give yourself a little pampering, and enjoy it. Don’t spend it thinking about what to make for dinner, or all the items on your to do list. Be in the moment, enjoy and relish this moment. Remember every detail of it, so that when you find yourself stressed out you can think of this moment and find peace.
